Bare-root fruit trees and shrubs are sold without any soil around their roots. Their roots are usually wrapped in moist material to prevent drying. They’re available for purchase during the dormant season, usually in late winter to early spring. Bare root plants can be planted as soon as the soil has thawed and is workable. Keep the soil moderately moist after planting. We water once a week if we don’t receive rainfall. It can take up to 6 weeks for them to leaf out (bud break) after planting. M
