Ashenda, Ashendeye or Shadey is a festival celebrated for few days before and after august 22 each year in Ethiopian specialy in Northern Amhara and Tigray regions also in neighboring Eritrea. Ashenda marks the end of a two-week-long fast known as Filseta and honour the Assumption of Virgin Mary for Ethiopian Orthodox Church. Young girls dressed in beautiful traditional dress and in small groups, go from house to house singing and dancing. The tall fresh grasses they put around there waist also
