All our priorities for the year ahead aim to make Lancashire safer, and we focus our efforts on five key areas to achieve this goal. Today, we’ll explore: Responding to fires and other emergencies quickly and competently Concerted efforts to prevent fires in recent years have significantly reduced the number of fires people experience; at the same time the types of emergencies affecting communities are evolving. We're asking the public to consider their actions and do what they can to assist in supporting their community. Our fire cadets are treated as young firefighters. The fire cadet programme provides young people with an insight into a uniformed service with basic firefighting skills being learnt alongside personal and social skills. Today Skelmersdale fire cadets learned what it would be like if a chip pan was to set on fire in the home. If you know anyone aged 13-17 who may be interesting in joining a fire cadet programme in Lancashire we have spaces at Burnley, Preston, South Shore and Darwen. | Lancashir

We are looking for volunteers to support our Fire Cadet Programme. Cadets are young people aged between 13-15 years who are involved in fire service activities and local community action. We have some voluntary roles available at Darwen Fire Station, Preesall Fire Station, Burnley Fire Station and Carnforth Fire Station if anyone can spare a couple of hours one evening to work alongside our firefighters and community support staff and put some excitement into these kids' lives that would be fab!

Here’s an update from our Incident Commander, Group Manager Tom Cookson. The fire is now under control and surrounded. The number of fire engines will be reduced during the morning but we expect to have firefighters here for the rest of the day. Local roads have been reopened but Haslingden Road will be busy during the rush hour periods as all vehicles need to use ramps to cross the hoses that are currently crossing the road. We are still advising local residents, businesses and drivers to keep

Area Manager Tony Crook urges people not to drive through flood water as we’ve had to make several rescues this morning. We’re very busy and whilst the rain may ease off there is still lots of surface water, rain and strong winds which is making travel difficult and dangerous. Thank you. | Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service (Official)

Lockdown easing and dry ground in the warmer months means there’s an added risk of a wildfire starting, causing devastating damage to Lancashire’s most beautiful outdoor spots! We attended 128 wildfires last year, with most incidents occurring in Rossendale, Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley and Hyndburn. Follow these tips to reduce the chance of a wildfire in the countryside: 🚭Extinguish cigarettes properly and don’t throw cigarette ends on the ground – take your litter home. 🚫Never throw cigare

We think you’d be surprised at just how many of our stations are crewed by on-call firefighters. Some stations like Lancaster have two fire engines, one being wholetime, and the other on-call to ensure the right cover is in the busiest locations. So that’s 400 families waiting at home when their pager goes off worrying where they’ve gone, how long they’ll be, if it means they’ll be too tired at their normal job/family duties the fol
