We were in the room where it happened when one of the newest little penguin chicks hatched! Meet A.Ham (name influenced by the Hamilton mania that has gripped Cincinnati!) Most chicks in the little penguin colony are named after foods, so this still kind of fits the theme. The other new chick will be named Green Eggs. The Cincinnati Zoo is home to the largest colony of the smallest penguin species, due in large part to the husbandry expertise of the Zoo’s bird staff. Look for Green Eggs and A.Ha

The wonder of 100,000 breeding pairs of Adelie Penguins. At 4am the sun was bright and clear, but a low cloud drifted into the scene before I could begin working. It’s no surprise that it drifted off as I was sailing away. That’s life in the field! Low, flat light can be a blessing for capturing white feathers so I’m not complaining.
