Texas Tech football standout Jacob Rodriguez received 17 first-place votes for the Heisman Trophy that was presented on Saturday, Dec. 14, to Fernando Mendoza, the quarterback of top-ranked Indiana.

John Mateer is an exciting playmaking quarterback with good physical tools, but lacks the consistency and accuracy to be viewed as a high 1st-round pick right now.

He is an effective, quick-game passer with a solid arm and the athleticism to make plays when needed.
