Lake effect snow is in the forecast for parts of Northeast Ohio through the Thanksgiving holiday. This lake effect snow event could produce intense lake snow bands capable of 1-2 inch snowfall rates per hour.
A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING has been issued for Cuyahoga, Lake, Ashtabula and Geauga counties and a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for Trumbull County from Thursday night through Friday due to accumulating lake effect snow bands.
CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - The National Weather Service has issued a lake effect snow warning for parts of Northeast Ohio. The lake effect snow warning goes into effect for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake counties starting at 1 a.m. Thursday. That warning is set to expire at 7 p.m. Friday though that is subject to change.
Most rain showers will end by noon, with the afternoon looking dry. Wind speeds do start to pick up around noon, but they won't hit criteria levels until around 7 p.m. That is also when the wind advisory kicks in for the Laurel Highlands.

On Thanksgiving itself, a persistent lake-effect snow band off Lake Ontario will continue to impact St. Lawrence County and the western Adirondacks. Under the most intense parts of the band, travelers may encounter slick roads, rapidly changing visibility, and localized higher snowfall totals.
On Tuesday at 1:08 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a lake effect snow warning valid from Thursday 1 a.m. until Saturday 1 a.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie.
