Snow in Hawaii isn't as unusual as you might think, but some northern U.S. cities are seeing significant delays to the start of their winter season.

The storm, which prompted a National Weather Service winter weather advisory, hit Mauna Kea, a dormant shield volcano and Hawaii’s highest point at 13,796 feet above sea level. The advisory remains in effect today, November 19. Forecasters predict that another inch of snow could fall on the Big Island’s summits, mixed with freezing rain.

Passing weather systems to the north will keep light to moderate east to east-southeast winds and drier conditions in place for much of this week. A cold front will approach the state during the second half of the week, but likely stall out and diminish west of Kauai over the weekend.
