Camp Mystic Director Dick Eastland among the dead in Guadalupe River flood
Torrential rains pounded Central Texas on Friday, dropping more than 10 inches of rain and causing the Guadalupe River to rise 26 feet, flooding Camp Mystic and nearby areas in Kerr County. By Saturday morning, it was confirmed that Dick Eastland, 70, had died. News of his death quickly spread across generations of Camp Mystic alumni.
Hero Texas camp director Richard “Dick” Eastland battled floods for decades and even saw his pregnant wife once airlifted off the grounds to a hospital because of a deluge.
Torrential rain flooded creeks, streams and the Guadalupe River, where the water swelled more than 26 feet in 45 minutes.
