A full recount was ordered in the constituency last night after just 35 votes separated the final candidates Councillor Kenny of Labour and outgoing TD Mick Barry. Mr Barry of People Before Profit/Solidarity withdrew his request for a recount shortly after 5pm today.

Over in Cork North Central, Labour's gambit was a little more old-fashioned, involving former Cork West TD Sean Sherlock's old lucky scarf. Handed over to Eoghan Kenny, the lore is that the wearer never lost an election.

There are 22 candidates running for 5 seats in Cork South Central. Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin was elected first on Saturday as he topped the poll at the first count.
