A new state law bans elementary and middle school students from using cell phones at school. High school students have limits on use as well.

Toledo Public Schools announced its plan to have all classrooms become a cell phone-free starting in the next academic year.

Ohio lawmakers have been moving toward banning cell phones for some time. They passed a law in 2024 that required school districts to establish official policies on cell phone usage during school hours by July 2025.
