Another powerful atmospheric river is forecast to hit Oregon late this week, bringing potential flooding, landslides and power outages, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

After last week's record river flooding in Washington state, more atmospheric rivers are taking aim at the West, set to bring heavy rain, mountain snow and damaging winds to Washington, Oregon and California.

Oregon is in for several days of heavy rain, strong winds and rising rivers as two atmospheric river surges push across the state through midweek.

A strong atmospheric river is expected to bring inches of rain to the area between Monday and Wednesday, and much of the region is under a flood watch.

Record river flooding is ongoing in parts of Washington State, but following a drier weekend, a new worry for wetter weather will arise early in the week ahead.

Powerful wind gusts knocked out power to more than 500,000 customers across Washington and Oregon early Wednesday, as the latest atmospheric river intensified over the flood-devastated region. The Skagit River forecast indicates it will rise back into major flood stage early Wednesday.

Some rivers may break records. Already, overnight into Tuesday, the Naselle River near Naselle, Washington, has gone from its normal 5 foot depth to nearly 20 feet deep, growing by 10 feet in 12 hours and coming within less than 1 foot of the historical record.

November was a somewhat dry month for Portland at just 4.67 inches. During an average November, the airport gets about 5.55 inches of rain. For comparison, during an average December, the airport gets about 5.77 inches of precipitation. Atmospheric river shifts northward. Portland’s latest atmospheric river sent wind and rain into western Oregon and Washington overnight. Scattered showers will continue as the winds begin to calm.
