WWE's John Cena Says He Was 'Apprehensive' About Breaking Ric Flair's Title Record
John Cena reflects on winning 17 world titles, claims he was unsure about surpassing Ric Flair's iconic championship record due to his respect for the legend.
John Cena officially retired from professional wrestling this weekend, and had some famous pals sent him congratulatory messages.
John Cena became a 17-time WWE Champion at WrestleMania 41, defeating Cody Rhodes in the main event. The match was memorable for Travis Scott getting involved in the match and Cena embracing his heel personality. Fans were left disappointed by the match, though Cena, now a babyface, and Cody had redemption at WWE SummerSlam in a street fight.
Cena said that Cody was a generic mix of every superstar that he’d ever liked, and came off like a 16 year-old taking acting classes who was afraid of public speaking. In response, Cody said that John Cena hangs around with Zac Effron and wishes he was 16 years old.
WWE fans notoriously got stale with John Cena's gimmick in the middle of his career and he listened and made a chance as he explained in a recent interview.
