The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season was more active than we’d see in a typical year. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA’s) official forecast for the 2024 Atlantic Hurrican Season turned out to be very close to how the tropical cyclone season turned out.

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season ends Nov. 30. The season brought 18 named storms, death and destruction across Florida and the Southeast.

Between June 1 and the end of November, 18 named storms formed across the basin, with 11 becoming hurricanes and five strengthening into major cyclones. Eight hurricanes made landfall.

The 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season will officially be classified as a “very active season,” producing 18 named storms, 11 hurricanes, and 5 major storms.

Within the next week and into the first week of July, Beryl formed in the Gulf of Mexico and became the earliest Category 4 hurricane on record in the Atlantic on July 1st, then strengthening to a Category 5 on July 2nd,

The deaths make 2024 the deadliest hurricane season since 2005, said National Hurricane Center director Michael Brennan.
