Tesla faces a proposed class action claiming it speeds up odometers on its electric vehicles so they fall out of warranty faster, saving Elon Musk's company from having to pay for repairs.

A Tesla owner in California is seeking a class-action lawsuit on behalf of all other Tesla owners in the state after he says the company has been systematically altering odometers so their warranties expire faster.

Tesla is facing a proposed class action suit over allegations that it has been speeding up odometers so its vehicles will fall out of warranty faster, according to a report by Reuters. This would make it easier for the company to get out of paying for repairs.

Tesla reportedly still plans to manufacture 250,000 units of the budget Model Y in the US by 2026, though it has backtracked on its plans to produce wallet-friendly EVs before.

The production launch of Tesla Inc.’s more affordable cars, including the stripped down version of the Model Y, has been delayed, Reuters reported Friday.
