After serving his punishment during a pit stop, Lando Norris, who, in fairness, had closed the gap to his teammate down to under two seconds by the time Piastri pitted, inherited the race lead, and the Brit did not look back, taking his first ever victory at his home race.

The lead car can dictate the pace of the restart, but Piastri was pinged by race stewards for "suddenly" braking. He received a 10-second time penalty, which he served during a pitstop. As a result, McLaren teammate Lando Norris took the race lead and went on to claim victory in his home Grand Prix.
