Craig Counsell and the Chicago Cubs may have fallen short in the Alex Bregman sweepstakes this offseason, but the organization has quite a promising young player rising through the system at the hot corner -- Matt Shaw.

Shaw, the Cubs’ top prospect, entered spring as the favorite to win the job at third base. But the team has taken a cautious approach to his ramp-up after an oblique injury. They’re likely targeting Sunday for Shaw’s first spring-training game, manager Craig Counsell said.

And under it, Shaw had outlined Turner’s whole career, from 2006, when he was drafted by the Reds, to present. “I thought it’d be a funny kind of little thing,” Shaw said, “but also respectful to show him that he’s had a really amazing career and to show my interest in that.

At one point, the Chicago Cubs thought they would have Alex Bregman at the hot corner in 2025. Now that they missed out on Bregman, their starting third baseman should be set in stone but manager Craig Counsell is having issues committing to a decision.
