While the Coastal Bend will most likely not see any snow, people can expect a strong cold front starting Jan. 25. The National Weather Service office in Corpus Christi said freezing temperatures are expected to continue through the following day, with wind chills falling into the teens.
Winds will veer out of the west-northwest after 6 p.m. and gust 20 to 30 mph during the late evening and overnight hours. This means wind-chills of 30° around 4 p.m. will quickly plummet into the mid-teens by midnight. Tuesday will be brutally cold all day with morning wake-up wind-chills around 0° to 5°.
Seasonally cool temperatures and dry weather will return late Friday through the weekend as high pressure becomes re- established. Another cold front may affect the state by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. High Surf Advisory remains posted for most north and west shores. Two more XL warning level NW swells are due on Thursday and Sunday.
On the morning of Jan. 16, according to the weather service, Fort Pierce tied a record low temperature of 32 degrees, last set in 1978. Vero Beach reached a low temperature of 34 degrees. The record low for Jan. 16 in Vero Beach is 31 degrees, said meteorologist Megan Tollefsen. It’s normally in the lower 50s this time of the year.
