The first funeral for one of the victims of the Bondi Beach shooting has taken place in Sydney, with thousands gathering to mourn Rabbi Eli Schlanger. He was among 15 people killed when two gunmen, alleged to have been motivated by Islamic State ideology, opened fire on a festival marking the first day of Hanukkah.
Dashcam video emerged Tuesday showing two bystanders trying to disarm one of the suspected gunmen before they carried out their horrific attack on a Hanukkah event attended by hundreds of families, killing at least 15 people.
Hundreds of mourners gathered in a Bondi synagogue for the funeral of Rabbi Eli Schlanger on Wednesday, a few blocks away from the beach where he was gunned down, one of the first of many services for the Hanukkah festival shooting victims.
Ahmed al Ahmed — whose actions were caught on a video that has been verified — is being praised as a hero in one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Australian history.
