Detective Allan Reddins, 40, was shot and killed outside the Oak Park Public Library on Black Friday after yelling out to suspect Jerrell Thomas, 37, to not reach for his gun.
“Allan was wise beyond his years,” said Oak Park police Chief Shatonya Johnson told those at Reddins funeral last week at the Apostolic Church of God on the south side of Chicago.
Detective Allan Reddins was killed in the line of duty on Nov. 29. He joined the Oak Park Police Department in 2019 after serving for two years as a Metra police officer.

A wake and funeral service will be held Thursday at Apostolic Church of God in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood. Reddins' wake is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. before a funeral service at 11 a.m.
