Illinois lawmakers are speaking out after a tense White House meeting Friday between President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker pressed the White House to release $1.88 billion in approved federal funding that he says the Trump administration is withholding from the state.

These frozen funds impact programs that provide technical assistance for small businesses, provide affordable solar energy for low-income residents, improve roads and bridges and more,” the Illinois lawmakers said in their letter to the White House Office of Management and Budget.

The federal government owes Illinois nearly $2 billion in funding, the governor and legislators say, as they look to D.C. for answers.

"President Trump's simpering fealty to Vladimir Putin and Russia is embarrassing and dangerous," Gov. JB Pritzker said.
