The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch at 2:36 p.m. EST on Thursday valid from Saturday 7 a.m. EST until Sunday 10 a.m. EST for Muskegon and Ottawa counties.
Be prepared for snow-packed streets and sidewalks Tuesday in the aftermath of a winter storm in Ottawa County. The Dec. 2 forecast calls for a high of 31 degrees, which will feel closer to 28, with an overnight low of 29, according to AccuWeather.

TONIGHT Heavy snow continues to target some lakeshore communities in Ottawa, Muskegon, and Oceana counties. Low visibility and intense snowfall rates will make travel nearly impossible along portions of US-31. Snow amounts could be quite intense, up to a foot in some places. Otherwise lows tumble to the upper teens.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for Ottawa County after 8-12 inches of snow fell over the holiday weekend.

There are two basic and immutable expectations upon which Ottawa residents insist: we don’t want our property taxes increased, and we want snow removed from our streets and sidewalks, quickly and reliably. Deliver those and a mayor or councillor can do just about anything else.
Ottawa's homeless shelters are entering winter already at full capacity. Despite city measures and expanded shelter and transitional housing space, people are still sleeping in chairs or on the floor.
