Many Jefferson County residents felt "left in the dark" after planned Colorado power outages
Tens of thousands of Xcel Energy customers experienced planned power outages in Colorado starting Wednesday. Some residents in Jefferson County said they felt left in the dark, literally and figuratively.
More than 17,000 people were without power in Northeast Ohio Thursday evening, according to FirstEnergy. Over 15,000 of those customers were in Lorain County. Outages in Olmstead Township were reported by its police department. Olmstead Township PD issued a traffic alert advising drivers to use caution during rush hour.
Planned Public Safety Power Shutoffs will go into effect for 50,000 people on Wednesday and could persist through Friday for some.
Food will last roughly four hours in a fridge, 48 hours in a full freezer and 24 hours in a half-full freezer during a power outage, according to the CDC.
