As crews work through storm damage in state parks, forests and trails a clearer picture is forming on how hundreds of downed trees may affect Northern Michigan’s summer recreation. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources updated its closure page and released a list of five state forest campgrounds they expect will have a delayed opening.

A long recovery remains ahead for the Northern Lower Michigan communities that were hit by an ice storm during the weekend of March 28-30. Some students will have had at least two weeks off school once they return, and thousands of residents still do not have power.

We're all trying to still get our feet under us and figure out what to do," one producer said, "because no one's seen this happen before."
