With the Brown University shooter still at large, several schools in Providence have canceled school on Monday, Dec. 15.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley has been thrust into the national spotlight following the mass shooting at Brown University that killed two students and injured nine more.

Last Saturday, two people were killed and nine others wounded at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, after a gunman dressed in black entered the Ivy League school's engineering building during final exams and began firing.

Investigators are asking for the public's help to identify the individual, "who was in proximity of the person of interest," according to a press release sent out at 12:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec 17. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Providence Police Department's tip line at 401-272-3121.

At the University of Rhode Island (URI), where final exams are supposed to end this Wednesday, Dec. 17, all in-person exams have been canceled for today, Monday, Dec. 15. Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) has not yet started final exams, but will hold all classes remote today, Monday, Dec. 15.
