Paige Bueckers Reflected on Rookie Season
Digest more
Former UConn women’s basketball star Paige Bueckers made WNBA history on Wednesday night with a 44-point performance against the LA Sparks.
While Chen hasn't been on the Valkyries roster for the entire season, she did get a chance to face off against Bueckers when the Wings traveled to San Francisco in late July. Chen praised Bueckers in an interview with the Bay Area News Group, highlighting her personality and leadership abilities.
In a follow-up response to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, who provided a general comment about the WNBA’s growing attendance, Green made it clear he was focused on the outlet’s decision to feature Bueckers on this graphic — seemingly alluding to the shift away from Clark for such posts.
Dearica Hamby pulled down the rebound for the Sparks, and she immediately gave the ball to Plum, who dribbled the ball to the Sparks' half-court and slowly wasted time away. With five seconds left, the Sparks star used a pick by Hamby to force a switch and then beat the slower Luisa Geiselsoder off the dribble to bank home the game-winner.
The two teams with the next-best chances of securing that top pick — which was guaranteed to be Paige Bueckers, who was en route to winning an NCAA national championship with the UConn Huskies at that time — were the Dallas Wings and the Chicago Sky.
