Russia launched 550 drones and missiles across Ukraine overnight in the largest aerial assault since the war began. The capital Kyiv was the primary target.

Waves of drone and missile attacks targeted Kyiv overnight into Friday in the largest aerial attack since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began more than three years ago, injuring 23 people and inflicting severe damage across multiple districts of the capital in a seven-hour onslaught.

In one of the most extensive overnight aerial confrontations of the war, Russian air defence units reportedly shot down 42 Ukrainian drones across several regions, including two near the country’s second-largest city, St. Petersburg, officials said on Saturday, 5 July 2025.
