When the Rockets acquired three future NBA draft assets from the Phoenix Suns (via a June 2024 trade with the Brooklyn Nets ), speculation immediately swirled regarding Houston’s potential pursuit of All-Star forward Kevin Durant. Yet, a deal didn’t materialize until approximately a year later.

KD is currently in the final year of a four-year contract that is supposed to land him $194 million and has reportedly been open to an extension with Houston, and according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, this is a very real possibility between the two sides, even though Durant may have to accept less than a maximum deal.

While many Houston fans were excited to see Kevin Durant join the team, Rockets general manager Rafael Stone made an interesting confession about the acquisition.
