Infielder Will Wagner is replacing center fielder Jackson Merrill (ankle) on the Padres’ active roster. He was called up before Sunday’s 1:10 p.m. start against the Dodgers (Padres.TV), but is not in the lineup for the series finale.

Wagner was originally an 18th-round draft pick by the Houston Astros in 2021 out of Liberty. He was traded to Toronto midway through the 2024 season and proved to be a versatile defender for them, having made appearances across the infield at first, second and third base.
