Lane Kiffin’s chances to land the LSU head coaching job have doubled in 24 hours amid reports of a massive financial offer and renewed SEC interest in the Ole Miss leader ahead of the Egg Bowl.

Orgeron, who led LSU to the 2019 national championship as the highlight of his six-year tenure as the Tigers' coach from 2016-21, has been out of work since his firing four years ago. He made it known last month that he would be open to a return to coaching and, particularly, to LSU.
A contract like that would rival Georgia Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart. According to USA Today, Smart has the highest yearly total pay among college head coaches at $13.28 million. It would be a substantial raise for Kiffin, as he’s reportedly making $9 million this season.
